I was referred to Marina OBGYN after a visit to Providence ER, where doctors found a 15 cm mass on one of my ovaries. I am in constant pain. When my bladder gets full or I eat too much, I become nauseous. If I move around too much or try to bend over, I vomit. It hurts just to wear jeans or even put on underwear. I was told I would need surgery, so this is not a minor issue. I scheduled the earliest appointment available online. I called out of work, lost income, and drove 30 minutes to the office, only to be turned away when I arrived. I was told that because I am a new patient, my appointment needed more time. This is something they easily could have communicated ahead of time, but no one called me. I was not allowed to speak with a doctor or even a nurse. Instead, I was told the soonest they could reschedule me would be nearly three weeks later. I was also told they could only schedule me with a male provider, which I was not comfortable with, but I felt I had no choice given the urgency of my situation. I left the office in tears. Now, a week later, they are trying to cancel the rescheduled appointment again because the doctor needs to be on call. At this point, it feels like I am expected to just live in pain, vomiting, and discomfort until at least January. On top of everything else, the front desk staff member who handles phone calls is completely lacking in empathy or compassion and is often rude and dismissive. This is especially upsetting in a women’s health office, where patients are often vulnerable and scared. I was treated like another number instead of a person in real distress. I expected better communication, better organization, and basic compassion from a medical practice. Unfortunately, this experience has been incredibly disappointing.

Dr. Olsund DO NOT RECOMMEND! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE: The staff at Marina OB-GYN were very kind and helpful, but my experience with Dr. Elisabeth Olsund was extremely disappointing. I scheduled my appointment about three weeks in advance and clearly explained what the visit was for — a uterine niche (isthmocele) repair consultation. When I arrived, I went through the normal check-in process: weight, height, blood pressure, etc. A medical assistant then came in and told me that the doctor couldn’t see me unless she had my medical records. I said that wasn’t a problem and that I could get them sent over right away. I also pushed back and asked why the doctor couldn’t at least come in and meet me during my scheduled appointment time — I had an appointment, and she had that time blocked for me. Still, the assistant said no, the doctor wouldn’t come in until she reviewed the records. The assistant then encouraged me to call my other doctors to get the records, and she and the staff worked closely with me to make it happen. They were even on the computer trying to download and properly upload everything for the doctor. So the doctor was fully aware that we were actively getting her everything she needed in order to see me. Despite that, once all the records and images were sent and confirmed, the assistant came back and said the doctor still wouldn’t see me because her schedule was now full. Dr. Olsund never came out to meet me, introduce herself, or even apologize for the situation. For a patient coming in for a specialized procedure, this lack of professionalism and basic courtesy was unacceptable. I left feeling completely dismissed and disrespected. Either the doctor isn’t confident in performing the procedure, or she simply didn’t care enough to speak to me directly. In either case, I would not recommend her. A doctor who won’t even come in during a scheduled appointment — after all records were provided — should not be trusted to perform surgery.

This is THE best OB/GYN that I’ve ever been to. The staff is professional, and efficient. The doctors are amazing, and everyone is courteous and happy for your bundle of joy growing inside of you. I highly recommend this place.

Very bad customer service. I went in today for an appointment that they scheduled me for just to get there and they informed me that they made a mistake and it was supposed to be a different date. Mind you I’m pregnant and very tired made them drive for them just to tell me it was the wrong date. Do not recommend!!!

I had a disappointing experience at this clinic due to the overall approach to patient care. I found the staff to be pushy, with poor bedside manner. Specifically, Jessica Utech, PA, told me I had prenatal diabetes before any testing was done—simply because I expressed hesitation about consuming the glucose solution typically used for screening. I later sought care from a different provider, completed appropriate testing, and confirmed that I do NOT have gestational diabetes. Rather than focusing on patient education, the approach here seemed driven by scare tactics, which I found concerning and unprofessional. Additionally, I noticed that both the PA and some of the nurses frequently whispered during the visit, which made me feel uncomfortable and excluded from my own care. As a Nurse Practitioner myself, I understand the importance of patient-centered care, education, and empathy. I intentionally did not disclose my profession in order to observe how they treat patients without a medical background. Unfortunately, my experience suggests a lack of respect for patient autonomy and informed decision-making. I would advise others to proceed with caution. If you’re looking for a provider who takes the time to educate, support, and empower you in your healthcare decisions, you may want to consider other options. And always trust your instincts—if something doesn’t feel right, seek a second opinion.

I do not recommend this location for appointments later than 2 pm, especially on Fridays if you or your partner have a work schedule. This clinic has canceled on us multiple times and will push you to reschedule for earlier times, typically before 1:30 pm. Despite arriving early, we still end up waiting. The receptionist is rude and unwelcoming, and the overall environment feels unprofessional. You can expect to wait at least 15 minutes after your scheduled time in the lobby, and another 15 minutes in the ultrasound room. It’s frustrating to spend over an hour there with little regard for your time.

I really like Dr. Rose but the level of communication from the staff is below acceptable. The office seems very disorganized. I have called for days for my test results and continue to get the run around. No one keeps up with messages in portal. I call and speak to one staff member and am told “your results will definitely be in the portal by end of day” and they NEVER ARE. Dr. Rose did an amazing job with my c section for my first child and I genuinely really enjoy our appointments, but a major part of the prenatal journey is ADEQUATE communication surrounding test results, which gives mom and dad peace of mind. This is extremely difficult for this office staff apparently. I could literally go to Quest Diagnostics myself and get results back faster. Please improve this. Happy to change my review when that happens.

My appointment was with Dr. Jessica Lapworth, but I was seen by a Nurse/Midwife instead. While she was pleasant, I was disappointed not to meet Dr. Lapworth. The Nurse/Midwife made a concerning and scientifically inaccurate statement about my reproductive health. She suggested that without my left fallopian tube, I might need to wait every other month to conceive. This is misleading. From my previous medical care, I understand that the remaining fallopian tube can reach the egg from the ovary on the side without a tube, allowing for monthly ovulation. This mechanism is well-documented. I'm concerned that a trained professional provided incorrect information, and I believe it's important to address such inaccuracies. I was disappointed with the care I received because it was so inaccurate, and when I emailed the Marina OBGYN manager to address this issue, I never received a response. I found out two days ago that I am 5 weeks pregnant. We conceived the first month I started trying and had no difficulty. Shame on this team for providing inaccurate, negative, unsolicited fertility advice. I am never returning here. I found a new OBGYN office that I trust. I don't recommend this office and team to anyone TTC.
