This practice is top-shelf from the front desk to the Drs. Have been a pt of Dr. Austin’s for several years now and she initially corrected a very bothersome, adverse outcome I had experienced at another practice. My experience was excellent. All of the staff are professional and kind. Mary Krempa RN explained everything in detail before my Tixel treatment, which was done very efficiently with little to no pain. I will be returning to see her for the rest of my treatments. My experience at Bay Area Dermatology was far from being favorable. The staff was very friendly, however I felt that the physician, who was treating me was pushing the Obagi products and treatments to consider in the future before she addressed the reason why I was there. After my treatment, I was handed a bill which included a consultation fee of $275 and $450 for the treatment. I thought it was outrageous! Most offices will charge a consultation fee if the patient chooses NOT to be treated. This is the first time I had to pay the consultation fee as well as the treatment. I was stunned and felt robbed. As I was leaving the office, I was handed a list of recommended Obagi products instead of recommendations for post treatment care. I would never recommend this office to anyone and I will never return for any further treatments. This office is very unprofessional and places making money ahead of patient care.

I’ve been a patient at BACD for over 5 years. Beautiful facility, with a kind and professional treatment team. Dr. Austin is one of the best doctors in California- and certainly the best the of the Bay Area. I’ve been treated for skin issues that other doctors cannot properly diagnose or treat. But Dr. Austin has phenomenal knowledge of skin, women’s health, and treatments for those that are multi-ethnic. (Like myself!) Most of all she educates the patient on how to care for their body and skin for the best long term effects. This includes having amazing products to treat the skin. ( see my skin care products below). I have rosacea and I wouldn’t trust my face or skin with anyone else . Thank you to the BACD team ! I have been seeing Dr. Austin for years. She is progressive and has a keen eye for maladies of the skin which matches her expertise with all things cosmetic. Initially, I had sun damaged skin and had lost hope and confidence, but after seeing her and following her instruction my skin improved more than I could have imagined. Then, I became lax with the more intensive parts of my program and now I can see the changes in my skin. So, I’m once again dedicated to having her guide me through the journey to more beautiful healthy skin. I must say, it takes commitment, consistency, and of course it can be costly, but the reward is worth it! I trust only Dr. Austin with my skin and I have seen many derms over the years. I highly, highly recommend her.

I have been a patient at BACD for fifteen years. I trust Dr. Welsh and Dr. Austin--caring, kind, personable professionals who have taught me how to care for my skin so that it appears much younger than my sixty-six years. I have had several chemical peels over the years, and been very pleased with the results, so when I went to schedule another peel and Dr. Austin suggested Fontona Deep, I was ready. I had tolerated the peels well and was not anxious, so declined taking any meds before the procedure. The first step was to apply numbing cream to my entire face and throat for an hour before beginning. The Fotona process is, as Dr. Austin describes it, "spicy." I found the spiciness manageable until close to the eye area and throat, which was eased by inhaling some NO2. After we finished, my face and throat were covered with medication and balm, wrapped with gauze, and secured with netting. I easily drove myself home. For the next four nights I applied the provided balm, gauze, and netting. I had the procedure on a Monday afternoon and that Friday felt comfortable spending the weekend out of town. Given that one's skin looks pretty fierce at first, I was surprised at how quickly the redness dissipated, even though I had an idea from the photos that Dr. Welsh had taken chronicling her own procedure's recovery process. After two-and-a-half weeks my skin's appearance is much improved from pre-procedure, with only a small amount of redness remaining at my hairline and throat. I could not be more pleased with not only the Fontona results, but the results of fifteen years of excellent skincare guidance from Drs. Welsh and Austin. I love my skin. Thank you!

Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology is outstanding. The office is run peacefully, and efficiently. The practitioners are skilled, thorough, and conscientious. I’ve seen Dr. Austin, who is patient in answering questions fully. Primarily, I’ve been working with Mary Krempa. I can’t recommend her enough. She’s attuned to her patient’s needs, and always diligent about creating a stellar outcome. Beyond that, Mary’s bedside manner is a delight. I leave her chair feeling uplifted and inspired.

I have mixed feelings about my care from Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology, and the TLDR is I feel like they try to get as much money as possible out of you. I came with 3 issues: acne, cherry angiomas that I wanted removed, and tattoo removal. For the acne, they prescribed tret and winlevi. For the tret, the options were a $100 bottle of tret + niacinamide that they make in house, or a $200 tube of tret. I later found out that I could have ordered a tube of tret from Amazon for $20. The pharmacy selling the winlevi was supposed to call me but never did, even after I followed up with BACD. For the cherry angioma removal, they recommended a laser to reduce scarring (versus dissection removal) but the laser didn’t do anything. They said that multiple laser treatments (and more $) might be required, but based on how large my cherries are, I feel that they should have recommended one treatment of dissection instead. No complaints on the tattoo removal, other than the fact that they double booked the machine and didn’t tell me until the day before, and then booked me out a month later. Giving two stars because the staff has been friendly and helpfully but unfortunately too may things have disappointed me.
