I have been sitting on this review for over 2 years because the last thing I want to do is tarnish someone’s reputation, especially a doctor who likely went into the medical field for altruistic & noble intentions. My dad was a patient of his and had diagnosed ulcerative colitis. He was having some very concerning symptoms in April 2022 that warranted a colonoscopy. Dr. Starkey reported that he was not able to get all the way up because it was too inflamed by the illeocecal valve. Dr. Starkey reassured my Dad that was due to his UC. Fast forward 2 months later, and my Dad ended up in the ER and was diagnosed with terminal 4 cancer (Neuroendicrine Carcinoma that originated in the illeocecal valve). He died 6 weeks later. I have never confronted Dr. Starkey about this, I have no interest in filing a lawsuit, but cannot help but feel that his cancer was missed. Had Dr. Starkey been more thorough and chose to order a scan to examine the portion he was not able to see, my Dad’s cancer would have been caught months earlier. It may not have saved him, but it could’ve bought him more time, at least. I’m sure he is a good person with the best intentions, but I do think there was some negligence in his care with my Dad. I almost think they become desensitized & don’t realize that one decision (like ordering a scan to be 100% sure) can make or break, or at least significantly alter someone’s life. And if you’re reading this - don’t take this (or any) doctors word for it. You are your best advocate.
