I have come to Dr Hiranaka twice for a tooth extraction. I appreciate that he confirms with me that he agrees with my regular referring dentist that the extraction is necessary. His friendly professional office is very welcoming as is Dr Hiranaka. In both occasions the extraction was totally pain free and quick.

I’m really not too sure how this place has such a high rating. I was recommended here for a tooth extraction by multiple people saying it was the best on Kona side. I had a consultation with the doctor. They had me do an x-ray even though I already provided them with x-rays from my previous dentist. Then I had to pay much more money than expected because they made me redo x-rays. When the doctor talked to me, I didn’t feel like he was very personable. He told me that they would be taking out three teeth when it was stated on the notes from my dentist that they would be taking out four teeth. I didn’t feel extremely comfortable or confident in this guy. When I finally had my tooth extractions: At the time of check-in they had me pay before the procedures. The person billing me said that it would be $600 when I was originally quoted $400 (after the consultation) when I asked for an Itemized bill they told me that it was impossible. I informed them that I would not be doing the surgery without having a detailed bill to which they then gave me a bill itemizing everything which then came out to $400 instead of $600. I’m not too sure if everyone is constantly in a bad mood in this establishment but barely anyone had any smiles which didn’t make me comfortable before my first surgery ever. I only spoke to the doctor once when he came in and it was just him telling me I’m going to take your heart rate. No hello, no how are you doing, he just whipped out his stethoscope checked my heart and walked right back out of the surgery stall (they’re stalls by the way not an actual room). One of the nurses started to give me anesthesia earlier than they were supposed to, so I knocked out before any other information was given to me. The most information I got was from the person who was billing me. When the surgery was done I was kinda shocked. All I knew that happened was I sat down in the chair, they started to hook me up to things, the doctor came by to check my heart, and then I woke up with everything being done. I had no other information given to me. They sent me home with a sheet of information stating that some issues that might come about. Every issue I had I had to google because there was no follow up call at any point. *minor note I also definitely felt pain during the extraction while I was asleep Weeks later: I was then billed for an additional $30 in the mail! But it’s still dawned on me that they would’ve taken $200 extra dollars out of my pocket if I had not requested for an itemized bill. You will not see me coming back to this place. Now I’m wondering if I overpaid for my initial consultation and x-rays because the prices for those was extra extraordinarily high, someone needs to look into this place.

UPDATE: My implant surgury was easy and flawless, just as I expected. No issues, just the expected week or so of discomfort as my very sensitive mouth/teeth, adjusted to the new occupant. Most folks are back to normal within a day or two… I just happen to be one of “those” that feel things more significantly than most. I’m so happy to know that if I ever need any more work done, that we have such an expert right here on island. 🙏🏽 ———- Although I haven’t yet had the implant procedure for a tooth that needs to be removed, I’ve never felt more confident with my concerns and anxiety about oral surgury put to ease during my consultation. Dr. Hiranaka has over 30 years of experience and clearly is at expert level in his practice. He was thorough in his explanation of the procedure, answered all my questions, took his time, and was so reassuring. His staff was incredible too, and I left in a better mood than when I arrived. What was feeling rather stressful now seems like no big deal, with just a day or two of recovery before returning to my daily activities. Awesome experience!!
