This was my first session of a CO2 laser facial procedure with the wonderful Dr. Powers. About three months ago, I began a treatment to address hormonal imbalances that were causing facial hair growth and other complications. What impresses me most is that he not only treats the symptoms but also goes to the root of the problem, guiding me with the proper medication. This was already my fourth visit, and I also want to highlight that he has the equipment to perform facial and body hair removal treatments, with results that have been absolutely transformative. Beyond his knowledge and precision, what inspires me most is the combination of his medical expertise across the entire field of health, together with his empathy, kindness, and genuine passion for helping his patients. Dr. Powers is not only an exceptional doctor but also a truly wonderful human being, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be under his care. I am deeply grateful for the trust, attention, and dedication he provides. There’s a healthcare provider myself I truly cannot express how appreciative I am of Dr. Powers and the rest of his staff. This is the best medical care I have ever received as someone who does have some conditions. I do feel that I am treated extremely well. This is the best place to go to Dr. Powers is extremely knowledgeable and only provides the best care. Would always recommend 10 out of 10

Powers Family Medicine is the greatest provider any transgender patient could possibly hope to see - and it's easy to do so. Doctor Powers immediately identified the root cause of my chronic health issues and transition inadequacy with basically a single blood test. Like, literally changed the course of my life. There are very few providers offering this level of care for transgender patients; probably none constantly innovating in the standard of care as he is. Patients anywhere in the US can apply for telemedicine with the other providers at the clinic and receive care backed with the same wealth of knowledge. My experience has motivated me to have my mother - who has struggled with a fibromyalgia diagnosis for half of her life - receive care from the practice as well and finally have those long-standing mysteries unravelled. Used to be a great practice, but something has changed. Communication is poor—you can’t reach anyone by phone, and the portal crashes frequently. I only learned they no longer accept Blue Cross when I tried to book an appointment; there was no proactive notice, just a “self-pay” offer. That left me choosing between paying out of pocket or scrambling to find a new doctor. It feels like patients come second to the bottom line—especially disappointing for a community that relied on this as a safe, supportive space.

Dr. Powers is one of a kind. He’s not only incredibly knowledgeable, but also genuinely caring and has a great sense of humor that makes every visit feel less intimidating. What sets him apart is that he actually takes his time with you… he doesn’t rush, and he makes sure you understand what’s going on with your body. He educates you, not just treats you. Since I started seeing him 6 months ago, I’ve learned more about my illness than I did in the 5–6 years I spent with other doctors. He’s thorough, compassionate, and really listens. I finally feel like I have someone on my side who actually cares and knows what they’re doing. He creates a safe, inclusive space and has one of the coolest offices out there. Everyone deserves a doctor like Dr. Powers. Highly recommend him to anyone looking for a physician who will truly advocate for your health.

Extremely Disappointed with the Lack of Transparency and Compassion [UPDATED MY SECOND REVIEW AT THE BOTTOM AFTER I RECEIVED MESSAGE FROM DR. POWERS AGAIN] I rarely leave reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience to help others. They charged me $250 for my introductory 10 minute tele call with my PCP, and it was deeply frustrating. I am perfectly insured with BCBSM and the hospital billed me for whatever they could find as the lowest complex code in their system as THEY DO NOT HAVE A CODE FOR NEW PATIENT'S INTAKE INTRODUCTORY call. Dr. Powers tend to say it was because of BCBSM, however this clearly is not due to the insurance, it is because the hospital doesnt have proper and accurate codes to bill their patients. From the start, there was no clear explanation of the process or the payment structure. I was left confused and anxious, not knowing what to expect or what I was being billed for. What’s worse is the complete lack of empathy from the staff. It felt like their only priority was making sure they got paid—not ensuring I understood my care or felt supported. Healthcare should be about people, not just profit. Patients deserve clarity, compassion, and respect, especially when dealing with their health. If you're considering this facility, I strongly urge you to ask very specific questions upfront about costs, procedures, and follow-ups—because they certainly won’t volunteer that information. ______________________________________________ I never imagined I’d be writing something like this. I’ve lived in this country for few years, and in all that time, I’ve never once left a negative review for anyone. I’ve always believed in giving people the benefit of the doubt, in trusting the system, and in staying quiet even when things felt unfair. But this time, I feel like I have no choice. I was charged $250 for a 10-minute telehealth call—a call where I didn’t even step into an office. They even admit that they feel not got the money worth treatment and blame it on the insurance BCBS. I have good insurance. I’ve seen doctors before as a new patient, including at the University of Michigan, and I was never charged anything close to this. They billed me fairly, based on the care I actually received. But here, I feel like I was blindsided. And now, after expressing my pain in a review, I’ve received a long, defensive message from the clinic that feels more like a threat than a response. I’m being told that if I don’t take my review down, they’ll post a public reply blaming me and my insurance. I’m not trying to blame anyone. I’m just trying to be heard. I’m just trying to say: this hurt me. I’m not a complainer. I’m not someone who lashes out. I’m someone who trusted this system, who followed the rules, and who now feels punished for it. I’m someone who cried after getting that bill, not because of the money alone, but because of how powerless and dismissed I felt by Powers Family Medicine. I’m sharing this not out of anger, but out of genuine concern for others. I don’t want anyone else to go through what I did—to feel confused, unheard, and then shamed for speaking up. I wish the clinic had responded with compassion instead of confrontation. I wish they had seen me as a human being, not just a billing code. Please, if you’re reading this, know that I’m not trying to tear anyone down. I’m just trying to stand up for myself, and for others who might not have the strength to speak. I recently started as a remote patient with Dr. Powers, and I cannot even put into words what an amazing doctor and person he is. Despite working with limited data, he could immediately pinpoint multiple issues in my case and created a treatment plan to address these. I left the appointment feeling hopeful and motivated for the first time in a long time. The difference between his care and what is available to me locally could not be a bigger night and day difference. I'm immensely grateful for PFM's willingness to take me in as a foreign patient, and for their direct care membership making it affordable ❤️

Update: My health has improved so much while under Dr. Powers’ care. He got rid of my horrible allergies, a bunch of skin issues I’d been trying to treat for years that I was told were genetic and couldn’t be helped, he greatly reduced my migraines and my pms symptoms, he’s improved my stress tolerance so much that I just finished my first year of returning to school. He also shrank a benign tumor that I was unaware I had (he told me I would likely have this tumor based on my symptoms, it showed up on imaging once, and then months later after treatment it was no longer visible on imaging). He is always such a pleasure to visit and his office staff is super nice. I feel comfortable asking Dr. Powers things I would never ask my former PCPs because I was worried they would say that I was making it up, etc. He sees every new problem as a fun puzzle and treats every patient care and respect. I can’t say enough good things about this office! ———————— As far as I know, there is no other doctor like Dr. Powers. My first appointment with him was nothing short of magical. He immediately guessed at what was wrong with me, and lab testing confirmed he was right. This is after 7 years of going to specialists off and on trying to figure it out. Some of the specialists I saw even studied the exact issue Dr. Powers diagnosed, but none of them thought to look for it. He is so freaking thorough it’s incredible. Usually insurance incentivizes doctors to be like “your 15 min are up, goodbye, see you at your 15 min follow up in 15 months,” but Dr. Powers isn’t operating that way. He doesn’t end the appointment till it’s over and till he’s completely resolved everything. When my lab results came in, he checked in with me immediately and found a way to rearrange his schedule so that I could start treatment ASAP. I really appreciate that he’s funny, tells it like it is, and doesn’t act like he’s the keeper of many medical secrets that my little brain can’t handle. Also I really love the atmosphere of the office with the cats and the video games. For me, going to the doctor sometimes feels like I’m getting booked at the station, but I actually really enjoy my visits to Dr. Powers’ office—so much so that I drive an hour to get there. In the past, I was unsure about how much I could take on and how aggressively I could work towards my personal goals because my weird symptoms were this constant wild card. Now I’m doing a lot of the things I was afraid to do, thanks in large part to the confidence I have in Dr. Powers if anything gets seriously funky with my health. I am referring all my friends and family to this office and can’t say enough positive things about my experience here!

Really messed up mine & multiple partners & friends health who have chronic illness not good at being at GP for health issues including EDS, MCAS , POTS but! If u just need hormones and a trans knowledgeable Dr good for that but also terrible with being able to get ahold of them or in if your sick.. so again not good as a GP or PCP cuz no matter ehat you do you cant get in contact with their office.. also doesn't know how any process for any chronic illness things work also doesn't have any good referrals for doctors your better finding your own..put me on liver meds why I didn't even need it & put me on lupus/arthritis when I didnt need them...?! Plus other things

What more can you say about a doctor that lets you play Super Castlevania in a Zelda-themed exam room while you wait to see a super kind and caring doctor who explains things clearly and compassionately? Oh, and they have amazing cats roaming around the office. Best experience I've had in medicine in my whole life and I look forward to relying on them regularly for my care.
