I’ve been going to Dr. Parmley’s office for my annual wellness visits for two years now, and until recently, everything seemed fine. However, my latest experience left me feeling misled and frustrated. I went in for my routine wellness exam, which included labs—a service fully covered by my insurance. After my exam, Dr. Parmley briefly reviewed my lab results, which showed a mild Vitamin D deficiency. We discussed it for less than a minute, and I simply bought a supplement afterward. No prescriptions, no additional tests, no follow-up care. Months later, I received a bill for around $160, showing I was charged for both a wellness visit (covered) and a specialty visit (not covered). My insurance confirmed the specialty visit was coded solely for the Vitamin D deficiency. This was never disclosed to me during the appointment, and in my experience, reviewing labs is a standard part of a wellness visit. I tried to resolve this by calling the office multiple times. The receptionist, Lindsey, took over a week to return my call and gave me a vague, scripted explanation that didn’t align with what my insurance told me. She even tried to justify the charge by listing my medications, which were only briefly mentioned during the visit. When I pointed out that my mother—who referred me to this office—had a similar visit and lab result but wasn’t charged extra, Lindsey asked for her name to look up her records. That felt inappropriate and borderline unethical. There goes another point off the trust meter. I asked to speak directly with Dr. Parmley, but never received a call back. Ultimately, I’ve decided to cancel my upcoming appointment and find a new provider. Patients deserve transparency, especially when it comes to billing. This experience felt like a bait-and-switch, and I wouldn’t recommend this office to others without a clear understanding of what they might be charged for. I really wanted to like this place, but it’s turned into a series of letdowns – mostly due to their misinformed and easily overwhelmed support staff.

Dr. Parmley is extremely thorough, kind and caring. I have never had a provider sit and talk with me in depth and discuss my health concerns as much as she has. For example, she sat with me and went line by line reading my labs and explaining at length which each result meant, which a provider has never done for me before. Lindsey at the front desk and other staff are just as great as well. Very friendly and kind. The office is lovely and I just love that I can go somewhere that I feel valued and welcome.

I'm pretty disappointed in the team here. I have a lack of faith. I'm coming here as a student and trusted their billing team upon talking to them that they would be in network with my insurance. It's my mistake for trusting, but they sent me a bill after two visits and overcharged me for "60 min charting time"—even though I was only seen in the office for 15 minutes. Please be wary; the billing side of things here is hazy, and it's important to be proactive.
