I was a “model” When they went to Michigan in October, I was charged $30 for three areas, even though only my lower legs (not including knees that I scheduled for as well) And under arms were treated. I talked to the people booking me and they told me that my extra $10 would be refunded immediately, it’s now December 20. I have been texting back-and-forth with the same person for over two months and they keep promising that the $10 is gonna get refunded and that their superior will reach out to me via email. And they haven’t. It’s only a $10 overcharge, but it’s the point that they have told me repeatedly they would refund it and that the person in charge would reach out to me with a receipt of the refund and it’s been over two months and they still have not. If they’re gonna do this over $10, I don’t want to even know what they would do to students who have paid thousands of dollars and so forth…. If I get the $10 refund in an apology for the two plus month delay, I’ll consider taking the review down or at least revise it. But until then, these are the current facts.

I’ve been to the National Laser Institute in Dallas about 13 or 14 times for laser hair removal on my Brazilian and underarms. I want to start by saying that several of the instructors here are genuinely amazing—professional, attentive, and kind. Even though I don’t know their names, I truly appreciate the ones who made me feel comfortable, gave me stress balls during painful areas, provided hydrocortisone when needed, and ensured the treatment was thorough. They’re the reason I kept coming back. That said, my overall experience has been mixed—and unfortunately, some ongoing issues have led me to leave a two-star review. There’s one instructor I’ve had multiple times who consistently gives me less thorough treatments compared to others. I’ve even brought this up directly, and during my most recent session, she said, “Don’t make me do more work for you, girl.” That was honestly upsetting. I understand that this is a student spa and I’m getting a discounted rate in exchange for letting students practice, but that discount should not come at the cost of being treated unprofessionally. I’m still a paying customer, and being seen by students doesn’t mean I should receive substandard care. I’ve also had a safety concern: during one session, a student double-zapped me in the same spot, and the instructor supervising wasn’t watching closely enough to catch it until it happened twice. I almost got burned. Mistakes happen, but this felt like a result of not paying attention, which is concerning. On top of that, there’s been a lack of transparency. I wasn’t told until later that the machines used in the student spa don’t go up to the same power levels as those in the private spa, which likely explains why I haven’t seen the full results I expected. I also once got charged for a private spa session even though I received the student version, and instead of giving me a refund, they gave me “free” sessions that didn’t add up to the original overcharge—so I still lost money in the end. Lastly, they often don’t apply your deposit unless you specifically ask, which feels like something that should be automatic. Again, I’m grateful for the instructors who clearly care, and I appreciate that the discount makes the service more affordable. But the level of treatment and communication I’ve received from certain staff has made me feel less like a customer and more like an inconvenience. If you’re going to offer discounted services in exchange for student training, that’s completely fair—but that doesn’t mean the client experience should be disregarded in the process.

Review of NLI – Proceed with Caution, Particularly for Lip Filler Services (which is the focus of this review). I’d like to share my experience with NLI. While I don’t want to be overly critical—and I do hope to return for other services—I believe it's important to offer an honest, constructive review for both potential clients and NLI leadership. I originally visited NLI for tattoo removal and was encouraged to purchase a membership for discounted med spa services. That part made financial sense, and I’ve been very happy with the laser treatments I've received. However, my experience with lip filler has been deeply disappointing. Where It Went Wrong Despite initial hesitation, I decided to try lip filler at NLI and was assured by the front desk that an instructor would closely oversee the process. Unfortunately, that oversight was clearly lacking. The result was unacceptable. My lips were uneven and poorly filled—so visibly botched that I needed two separate visits for dissolving. The instructor allowed me to leave without any acknowledgment or plan to correct the issue, which was both shocking and unprofessional. Poor Customer Support I reached out to customer service and was met with dismissiveness. Rather than take ownership, I was made to feel as though my expectations were the problem. The proposed solution? Let another group of students correct the work. Understandably, I declined. When I asked to have my lips redone by an instructor, I was told I’d need to purchase two new syringes and have additional areas of my face injected—which I never wanted. While I was willing to pay the “at cost” rate to correct my lips, I did not agree to unnecessary procedures. Eventually, after escalating to the owner (who never personally responded), I was told an exception would be made: I could have my lips redone by a top injector, Heather. Final Frustration I drove an hour to my appointment, only to find a student—not Heather—about to inject me. When I explained the situation, the instructor claimed they “don’t do that,” and Dani (customer service) completely denied our agreement, despite my having written proof. At that point, I felt backed into a corner. The students were kind and reassuring, and not wanting to waste the trip, I allowed them to proceed. I’m currently waiting for the swelling to go down and hoping for the best. Final Thoughts To be clear, this review only pertains to my experience with lip filler. I’ve been pleased with my laser services and still believe NLI offers value in that area. However, I urge NLI to: Update your paperwork to clearly outline what happens when services go wrong. Improve accountability and communication, especially with customer service. Treat client concerns seriously—especially when we escalate due to failed resolutions. To future clients: I'm not saying avoid NLI altogether. Just proceed with caution and advocate for yourself. And to NLI leadership—when a client reaches out directly, it’s because all other channels have failed. Had I received a simple, sincere follow-up, this review likely wouldn’t have been necessary. A Visual Comparison To provide clarity, I’m attaching two photos: The first shows my lips after filler done by a different provider (which I was extremely happy with). The second shows the results of my filler treatment at NLI. The difference speaks for itself. Please proceed with caution.

Attending the National Laser Institute was truly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed, inspired, and completely supported by the entire team. I want to give a special shoutout to Louis, Monica, Bianca, Ali, each of them brought such amazing energy and knowledge to the table. Their passion for what they do is contagious, and they genuinely care about each student’s success. Monica’s enthusiasm lit up the room, Ali’s guidance was empowering, Bianca’s encouragement kept me pushing forward, and Louis was such a great motivator always there with the right words to keep us focused and excited. The environment at National Laser Institute is not just about learning it’s about growing, believing in yourself, and stepping into a new chapter with confidence. I left feeling not only educated and prepared but also uplifted and incredibly motivated to chase my dreams. If you’re thinking about taking the leap, I can’t recommend this place enough. The staff, the curriculum, and the energy are absolutely unmatched. Thank you again. Xo!
